I've decided to give blogging a go.

Today I woke up feeling as though the four beers I drank last night had snuck another three dozen of their mates alog with them without me noticing. It was probably the fact that I'd had only about 5 hours sleep for the last two nights. meh...

Phil and I finally used our kayaks today. Considering we put them on layby sometime around April it's not a great effort. One thing that I was worried about was that I'd get out on the water in the thing and find that I hated it - to my incredible delight this wasn't the case. I loved it. I'm thinking that this summer is shaping as being spent largely on the water. I love the peacefulness of sitting out on the water by yourself.

My thoughts on - Justin Hodges

A big deal has been made in the newspapers and rugby league magazines (Big League and Rugby League Week) about the fact that Justin Hodges was booed by Broncos fans at the game against the Cowboys last week. I'm personally not for it (I think i told Boyd on sunday to give the bloke a chance), but what did people expect? He's played like crap for the last 24 months and then the broncos go and get him back...

I for one am quite confident that by the end of the year he will be one of the best outside backs in the game (though i believe that he has the potential to be the best) and big bad Thorn will be the form backrower of the comp. I think that if he regains his speed he has the rare combination of strength, speed, instinct and ability that few if any currently playing in the league can match. The problem lies in the fact that he is very much a confidence player and when his confidence is down e is next to useless. It is for this reason that at all the games we go to from now on I'll be cheering for him when he does something worth cheering and holding my boos and hisses until I've got to the midseason mark and decided he is just plain useless.

On his performance on the weekend I think he did pretty well given the limited opportunities that he had. His defence under the rather unimaginative and poorly executed Nth Qld kicking game stood up well to every test (except possibly for that hiccup where he almost took the ball out before brilliantly passing it back to Hunt), his runs when he did get the ball showed at the very least that his heart was in it (one run there he brushed off about three defenders without making an additional metre) and his contribution to the last try that Hunt scored was really quite impressive. By all reports Justin and Karmichael are quite fast mates and are seen out on the piss with some regularity (though i hope that is stopping or at least slowing now that the season has started) and one can but hope that they can strike up a combination reminicent of the glory days in 2001 of the back three of Lockyer, Sailor and Lote.

Feel free to post comments
